The 31.17m (102ft) sloop Chimera began construction at Alloy Yachts International in August 2000. Designed by Fontaine Design Group, USA she was built for a European owner.

The aluminium sloop has a beam of 7.92m (26,Oft), draws 3.28m (10.9ft) and displaces 124 tonnes. She is rigged with a Southern Spars aluminium mast and in boom furling. Sails are from Doyle Sails New Zealand made from Doyle Vectran laminate. Working sail area is 4500sq ft (420 sq.m.)

The engine is a 425hp Lugger L 6125A.

The cockpit has a single steering station aft of the generous outside lounging area. A feature of this area is a television monitor, which can be viewed outside. A folding sun awning covers the area.

Varnished teak was used on the cap rail and as a feature around the pilothouse.

The aft deck is accessed from the water or dock by an Alloy Yachts designed folding transom staircase and swim platform. The sloop has a traditional pilothouse with the deck head finished with painted grooved timber.

To port is a dining area while to starboard is the inside steering station and navigation area. The instrument console can be lowered out of sight when at anchor. Stairs lead below to the lower salon, bar and entertainment area.

There is no formal dining in the salon but guests can sit informally at a bar connecting to the galley through a sliding hatch. When not in use a concealed television monitor can be raised in front of the closed hatch.

The interior was designed by the Alloy Yachts Design office, the owner and the naval architect. It has flat cherry panels to wainscot height with detailed moulding and fabric above.

Stairs from the salon lead aft to the guest accommodation.

To starboard are a single berth cabin and a twin cabin. Both these cabins share an ensuite bathroom. The twin cabin has a drop down
Pullman berth.

To port is a double cabin with ensuite.

Aft is a spacious owner's suite with a lounge area, dressing room, bathroom and stairs to the aft deck.

All guest cabins are fitted with flat screen television monitors. All areas are fitted with an integrated Xantech sound system. A large well appointed galley, crew mess and accommodation for four crew are forward. Chimera was launched in April 2002 and has cruised extensively, from New Zealand to Alaska.
